Starting April 1st, make sure to get signed up for the Pleasant Valley 2-Style Challenge on Sunday, May 1st at Pleasant Valley Junior High. Register online via Trackwrestling for the “Pleasant Valley 2-Style Challenge (FS)” and all competitors will be imported in to the Greco tournament from there. 2 tournaments for the price of one! Wrestling is slated to begin with Greco at 9:00 a.m.  All competitors are required to compete in both styles. An officials clinic will be held on Saturday, April 30th from 10:00-noon at PVJH. Weight checks will be conducted from 8:00-8:30 on Sunday morning before competition. Championship t-shirts will be awarded to all divisions.

This weekend, 5 PVWC athletes competed at the USA Wrestling Girls National Folkstyle tournament representing Team Iowa. Ella Schmit, Abigail Meyrer, Lilly Hamma and Sydney & Tateum Park all took to the mats in search of titles at the Freede Center in Oklahoma City, OK. Ella Schmit secured another national title at Novice 75 lbs. while Abigail Meyrer (Intermediate 55 lbs.) and Sydney Park (Novice 110 lbs) secured runner-up finishes. Great work ladies!!

USA Girls Folkstyle Nationals

Over the weekend, PVWC members Eli Loyd, Josh Pelzer and Kearon Zeimet competed as members of Team Iowa at the AAU Middle School Duals. All 3 boys brought home hardware, earning All-American status with Loyd & Zeimet running the tables over the course of the tournament. Iowa Black also took home the team title as 2016 Middle School National Champions! Way to go guys!!


AAU Middle School Duals

The  2016 AAU National Teams are set and the Pleasant Valley Wrestling Club will have five wrestlers representing Team Iowa this year at the AAU National Duals. PVWC Coach Matt Thoene has also been selecting to serve as a coach on the Team Iowa staff. Congratulations to all our wrestlers and Coach Thoene for your selections! GO SPARTANS!!



The Pleasant Valley High School wrestling team stormed into Des Moines on the heels of a successful district meet that saw them claim 6 district titles. Those earning district titles were:

-Matt Robertson: 126 lbs.

-Spencer Nevills: 145 lbs.

-Christian Foote: 152 lbs.

-Ryan Loyd: 160 lbs.

-David Carr: 182 lbs.

-Chance Cary: 195 lbs.


The Spartans had a successful run at state with 5 kids claiming state medals en route to a 9th place finish, highest in 3-A amongst all MAC schools. Our medalists were:

-Christian Foote: 3rd place @ 152 lbs.

-Spencer Nevills: 4th place @ 145 lbs.

-Matt Robertson: 7th place @ 126 lbs.

-David Carr: 8th place @ 182 lbs.

-Chance Cary: 8th place @ 195 lbs.
